Why do I love Chrysocolla-Malachite? Because it’s effortlessly cool. It’s a stunning blend of Kelly green mixed with saturated classic Sleeping Beauty colored Turquoise. A stone that wouldn’t be out of place walking down the street in New York City, where I grew up, or at an Après Ski slope-side in Aspen. It’s raw, untamed, and totally unique, just the way I like my semi-precious stones and jewelry.
Honestly, it was love at first sight at the Denver Gem show in Fall 2024. After getting a few pieces for myself I went on a hunt when I was in Jaipur for a supplier. I was introduced to a family business, stone merchants who have an amazing shop in Jaipur and have ben in the gem business for generations. While I was there they were able to help me get some beautiful cabochon pieces made in to pendants.
Since I split my time between Denver and Maine, I feel connected to this stone because for me it embodies the ocean and mountains. This stone feels like my personal anthem, swirling Turquoise blues and rich Evergreen greens, the stone is wild, free, and completely unfiltered somehow embodying sophistication, adventure and an edginess.
What exactly is it? Chrysocolla stone is a copper silicate. It is a blend of Malachite and a copper carbonate in a Turquoise blue. Mother Nature truly outdid herself with this one.
