Spring 2022 I was asked to help with the jewelry and accessories for the “Up-cycling” runway for the Denver Fashion Show. The theme for the show was upcycled / sustainable fashion with a 70’s Vibe. I was up to the task and super excited!
In the weeks before the show I happened to have a trip to New York City planned. I knew what I needed for the outfits because Kim Rayfield, the designer for this runway show, had a clear vison of what she wanted. She sent me pictures of the clothes, ideas and her thoughts on what she wanted to communicate her 70's inspired show. I knew what I had to do and I went on the hunt to some of my favorite places for vintage jewelry in NYC.
I was able to get some amazing pieces to compliment Kim's vision and the outfits. I found jewelry that was from the 70’s by visiting a secret bead shop I love! Since you are reading this I can let you know my secret – its Craft Jewelry Supplies (only open to wholesale and by appointment only) as well as scoring some treasures at a couple of my favorite vintage shops like Housing Works the City Opera Shop. And as I mentioned, I am an avid vintage jewelry collector, so I leveraged a few pieces as inspiration as well.
This experience made me realize that I could combine my love for jewelry – both vintage and new and use that to create jewelry fit to walk down a run-way. It was a thrilling to see my jewelry and accessories on the models that day.
